Grandma Vera's Stories

Mothers Day

The first word a baby says is usually "Mama".

In 1914, Anna Jarvis, wanted her mother and all mothers to be honored on a
special day.  Honored, not because she provided many toys for her as she
grew up.    Not because she gave in to her every whim.  Not because she
was her best friend.

She was probably none of these things.  Our mothers made many sacrifices
to see that we became a loving, caring, thankful human being.

It's the book she read at bedtime.
It's the veggies she insisted you eat.
It's your room she made you clean.
It's the time she said "no", with a tear in her eye.
It's the time you were grounded, crying, "Oh why?".
It's the care she took of friends you meet.
It's the love always here from the start.

It's the love of God she formed in your heart.

That is why it is Mother's Day.
